This is a newly formed website by descendants of the Scottish Settlement of Almont, Michigan, USA. The website is intended for those seeking or willing to share information on the original families and friends of this very special place. Scottish pioneers immigrated to America from County Ayrshire, Scotland in the early to mid 1800’s. Additional pioneers, followers of the Swedenborgian religion, came from Glasgow and settled in St. Clair County in Michigan.

Hopefully, with your help, we can fill in some gaps (and we have many) or provide a starting point for some of the newbie genealogists out there! We would love to hear from you. Any information you have is welcome, even little tidbits and clues would be appreciated. We do our best to verify information before adding it to the site, but on occasion you may see a question mark which shows we either have insufficient information or we could not verify what we have so far discovered.

This is a work in progress, constantly monitored and updated. What is extraordinary about this website is that you can become your own site manager, for your own family.  We will be available to help get you started at which time you will be the one adding photos and notes. You can add to the site and collaborate with others at your own pace.

This is an amazing endeavor that will, in time, be one of the largest local collectives of its kind, based right here in the Scottish Settlement. Imagine being able to leave a message for your future family—you will become an ancestor yourself! When you take over management of your family history you gain the honorary title of Family Historian.

Be on the lookout for the Michigan Scottish Settlement Historical Society which we will formally establish by years end. One of our goals is to work with historical societies in both Michigan and Scotland to further ancestral research and add links to this website. We are also working to build alliances with regional libraries.

Family Historians

When you assume responsibility for a family, you are designated as an honorary Family Historian. For example, Stacy Kmetz is the Braidwood Family Historian. Doug Baldwin, who co-manages this site with Stacy, is the Family Historian for the Wallace, Mair, Rutherford, and McEwan families. The photo on the left is Doug with his two grandkids Jared and Thea.
